Be it by day or night, the arrival at the Land of Fire is everything but common. The country is not well-known, especially by European people and that is why the beautiful and completely modern airport can seem a bit empty.
Empty yes, but not cold. Not at all. You have barely landed at Heydar Aliyev International Airport when people try to help you and to welcome you warmly. No matter the place you go, people make efforts to understand you and even to talk with you in your own language. Most of the time, they only know the basic words: Hello, thank you, my name is… But still, it’s cool!
Once you leave the airport and you drive or take a bus to Baku, the city of winds, you can find a really unusual hustle and bustle. Even if the town is really windy, the weather is still so hot in Summer and the streets are pretty quiet before 3 or 4 pm. But when the night falls, streets become crowded and so does the Boulevard, where you can sit with your friends and enjoy the view while eating a Turkish ice cream or drinking tea.
If the city of winds has two lives, Day life and Nightlife, it also has two distinct architectural styles: Ancient and Modern, with small stone buildings and glass and steel skyscrapers as well. When the night falls, the capital of Azerbaijan reveals another division. Actually, the city-center of Baku is well-enlightened with diverse and beautiful colors but it is not the case for the rest of the town which is in some places only enlightened by the headlights of the cars and the shop windows.
To sum up, Baku and for sure the whole Azerbaijan seem to have multiple faces. Let’s discover all of them! Let’s be amazed by the Land of Fire and all its richness!
